Socha 2 AVU 1990–2016 Demartini–Zeithamml

The book reports on the 26-year period of the sculpture studio of the Academy of Fine Arts Socha 2, led in 1990–1995 by Hugo Demartini and in 1995–2016 by Jindřich Zeithamml. The studio focused on abstract sculpture, in the spirit of the concept of sculpture in the original sense of the word, ie as an expression through matter, forms and their mutual cooperation. Important characteristics of the works of students of both schools include an awareness of the meaning of the sculpture, the possibility of expression offered by work with the material, an awareness of proportional laws and the canon. The traditional means of sculptural expression are conceived here as a still valid platform on which it is possible to rely at any time during the experimental search. Thematic changes from transpersonal ideas to a personal story reflect the presence of the ethical dimension of being, one's own attitude, at the same time referring to general levels. An extensive set of photographs of works by graduates, students and teachers forms the main part of the publication. It is presented in a chronological axis, which gives an overview of the study period of all authors, as well as exhibitions and excursions of the studio. The sets of photographs are accompanied by an art-historical study, medallions of all authors and a selection of already published texts by authors, curators, interviews and reviews.
